Frequently Asked Questions

Below you'll find answers to the questions we get asked the most about.

Questions about Costs

Why are the names not free like gmail, hotmail or yahoo?

For a number of reasons:

  1. We have decided that we want the email addresses within our domains to be professional, and not to be filled with random names, or to be overloaded with spam. So putting a price on them reduces the number of 'throw-away' type names.
  2. While we can limit the number of emails any address can send per minute, hour or day like the other free email systems, there is nothing to stop spammers just registering hundreds of email addresses if they are free (which is what they do!).  We do not want this, so charging helps minimise spam from the domain, and so maintains the reputation of the domain.
  3. In addition, we will not scan or use your emails in anyway, or sell your email addresses, or force advertising on you.  So, we cannot cover the costs of support or even the purchase of these special domain names with out a fee.
  4. We will do our best to ensure our hosting costs are competitive.  As we get more names, we should be able to negotiate better prices.

Can I pay monthly?

This really depends on which hosting service we are going to provide. If it is a relatively cheap one, then we will probably only provide Annual payments to simplify the process.

Do prices include VAT?

We are not currently VAT registered.  But, for any email addresses registered before we become VAT registered, we are prepared to cover the VAT cost on renewal after we register.  So, not only do early purchasers get the address they want before someone else, they also get a lock in on price.

Questions about Pre-Ordering

Why can I only put 10 addresses in the cart?

We want to give as many people as possible the chance to get a name that they want. By only allowing 10 at a time, this slows down those that do want to register more.

In addition, it reduces the chance of automated bot systems pre-registering everything.

When will the addresses be available?

We're currently testing the email functionality, developing help guides, and creating the system manage your addresses.

We'll keep you informed via facebook and twitter, but hopefully we should be up and running within a couple of months.

Questions about Addresses

Why can't I have a one, or two letter address?

We feel that shorter than three letters does not really represent who you are. The only exception might be someone called "Jo".  If this is you, please feel free to contact us.

What if someone has already got the address I want?

We run a first come, first served system.  However, if someone is using the name illegally (including impersonating others, or breaching trade names rights), I would suggest you contact them in the first instance.

Questions about Hosted Mailboxes

Can I host elsewhere?

Because of the way emails are routed over the internet, it is not as simple to route individual emails to different servers.  All emails are routed to the server as specified in the domain.

As a result, it is not possible to host the emails elsewhere.

However, if you still prefer to use another hosting company (even google if you want let them analyse your emails), you can get Google to collect the emails from your hosted email address on our server.

Alternatively, you could just go for forwarding emails to your existing email address.  But this may mean you can only receive emails at this address, rather than sending them as well.

Can I forward to multiple addresses?

This is something we are looking at during while checking the hosted options as it might be useful for small clubs.  However, it is not really suitable for mass emailing, and we limit the number to 30 names.

Can I set an end date on an auto-response so that it stops when I get back from vacation?

Yes.  An end date can be set.  And a start date too if you want to set it in advance.
